Join Zombie Zoe and Adrianna the Alchemist for CKXU’s The Creature from the Deep’s Killer Trivia at 8pm on Thursday October 22nd. Dial in to 88.3 FM and follow along! Click right here to be taken directly to the game, which is hosted on the CrowdPurr Trivia Hosting Service. It will state that the game hasn’t been started yet until it goes live.

We’ll be collecting emails to contact the winner. Please keep your nickname rated G or you may be removed from the game.

There is a prize for the creature with the top score! This trivia prize package includes a vinyl package curated by the Music Director of CKXU and historic CKXU swag – including a 15 Year Anniversary Tote Bag!

This AGLC Licensed Raffle will take place on October 24th, 2020. Starting at 8am, hop on over to the CKXU FUNdrive Shop to purchase a “tile” number to be entered into the 50/50. At 4:00pm the same day (October 24th, 2020), via Facebook Live, the winning ticket will be pulled – will it be yours?

Tickets are $10 each! 50% of the jackpot will go towards CKXU FUNdrive’s goal of creating a new and highly functional website and 50% of the jackpot will go towards one lucky winner.

Why not join the CKXU Spooky Scary Scavenger Hunt this weekend?

From Thursday October 22nd to Sunday October 25th there will be 10 questions posted daily to complete. Questions vary from taking photos, completing written answers, and also taking videos!

The overall winner of the Scavenger Hunt will receive a prize package that includes various vinyl curated by the CKXU Music Director, a $25 Gift Certificate to Street Legal Records, another $25 Gift Certificate to BLOOMDiggity, and throwback CKXU FUNdrive swag!

To get started, download your Scavenger Hunt Checklist. It contains all the questions that will be asked over the course of the week so you can prepare in advance. You need to submit the questions on the CORRECT day in order for them to count!

Once you’ve read over our checklist, go to the submission page to submit your answers, photos, and videos! Ensure that you are using the same email address each time as it will be used to determine the winner.

Additionally, rules are listed on the submission page, so be sure to give them a read over before you start!

NOTE – You are NOT required to enter any location to complete this ONLINE Scavenger Hunt. You may need to get creative with the Google Maps Street View feature in some cases if you are unable to travel to certain locations!

To all of our valued volunteers, programmers, donors, and listeners,

It is with great sadness that the CKXU Radio Society announce that our staff and board of directors has made the difficult decision to postpone the FUNdrive 2020 fundraiser, originally scheduled for March 13 to 21 2020.

The decision to postpone the fundraiser did not come easily or without emotion. Over the course of the past couple weeks, CKXU staff and board of directors have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on the Southern Alberta community. Our staff and volunteers have been working tirelessly for months to make the fundraiser a reality, and we understand that this is a disappointing decision for a lot of individuals that contribute to the station and its community. After hearing Alberta Health Services’ public address and official recommendations this afternoon (March 12, 2020), we could not proceed in good conscience with the fundraiser. Additionally, we understand that many campus and community events have been postponed or cancelled for similar reasoning.

At its core, CKXU is a “volunteer driven radio society that provides independent campus and community radio and opportunities through programming, tools, training and events in the Southern Alberta region.” This means that we strive to build a healthier community to the best of our abilities, for anyone who calls Southern Alberta home. We hope that this postponement will better equip our staff, volunteers, and board of directors to respond to the ongoing recommendations being put forth by Alberta Health Services and the University of Lethbridge’s Risk & Safety team. At the end of the day, the safety and health of our volunteers, staff, board of directors, and community always comes first – we hope that this decision reflects what we consider to be an integral component of our organization’s mission.

We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on our day-to-day operations. At present, you can still tune in to CKXU 88.3 FM or check out our live stream to hear our regularly scheduled programming. If this at any point changes, we will notify the public via the appropriate channels. We appreciate your patience and support while we navigate and work through this situation as a community. We will provide additional details about the rescheduling of the fundraiser as they become available.

CKXU Presents: FUNdrive 2020 – It’s ALIVE!
March 13 to 21 2020

From March 13th – 21st, CKXU 88.3 FM is celebrating it’s week-long radio-telethon fundraiser, FUNdrive! FUNdrive is the time of year where CKXU actively collects donations from generous listeners and supporters in order to maintain general operations, fund capital projects, build resources in the community and grow as an organization. This year’s theme is “It’s ALIVE!”, a fun take on classic 50s/60s pulp horror. Over the course of the week of fundraising, CKXU 88.3 FM shines a spotlight on celebrating its volunteers, the vast network of local partnerships with businesses and organizations, and the value of donor support. 

The donations towards this year’s FUNdrive will be going towards a brand new, custom-built website. The fundraising initiative for this capital project started with our 2018 FUNdrive campaign, and is set to be completed in the next one to two years.

We’re hoping that this website redesign will help us play a more effective role in the distribution, promotion and support of local musicians, businesses and arts organizations.”

The new website will capitalize on improved functionality of existing features, build upon accessibility and navigation, and will be completely rebranded. Some new and exciting attributes include the introduction of podcast episodes, radio show playlists and profiles, and a community-based calendar to increase engagement and awareness within the Lethbridge community. This will provide our programmers and listeners with a more interactive, easily accessible listening format so that all of our radio programming is readily available whenever that good ol’ CKXU listening bug hits! The website will also be designed to receive digital musical submissions from artists from across the world – over time this will help facilitate the creation of a huge database of music for CKXU volunteers and the greater Southern Alberta community to better showcase a diverse and inclusive variety of genres and musical voices.

CKXU has seen much success with capital project based fundraising campaigns in recent years. Between 2013-2016, CKXU canvassed the public for donations to build infrastructure to boost its broadcasting strength from 100 watts to 3000 watts. This project came to completion in early 2019 and is a landmark achievement for CKXU, and the community as a whole.
