CKXU is Hiring for a Volunteer & Music Director!
CKXU 88.3 FM is a volunteer driven radio society that provides independent campus and community radio and opportunities through programming, tools, training, and events in the Southern Alberta region. We are currently hiring for the part-time contract position of Volunteer & Music Director. Accountable to the Executive Director, the Volunteer & Music Director works as part of the CKXU team and is directly responsible for recruiting, intaking, and training incoming volunteers, coordinating and facilitating Station fundraisers and events, managing the existing physical and digital music libraries, and overseeing volunteers to assist with intaking, processing, and organizing incoming music submissions. The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Volunteer Mgmt:
- Orienting and intaking new volunteers and connecting them with the appropriate staff;
- Ensuring recruitment strategies each semester are robust and consistent;
- Maintaining an updated list of Station volunteers and ensuring the list is accessible to all staff;
- Planning and facilitating the annual Volunteer Appreciation event.
On-Air:
- Working collaboratively with the Program Director to maintain and review content in the on-air automation system;
- Communicating with the Program Director to keep volunteer programmers informed about interview opportunities with local and traveling artists, record labels, etc.
Fundraising:
- Coordinating and facilitating external fundraisers and events including, but not limited to: Highway Clean-Up, Last Class Bash, AGLC Casino Fundraiser, and Fresh Fest, with support from the Outreach Director.
Marketing:
- Providing local artists with a Music Mailout service for new music releases on an as-required basis;
- Assisting the Outreach Director with social media and web promotions, as required;
- Assisting the Executive Director with partnerships and advertising contracts, as required.
Administration:
- Reviewing and classifying incoming physical, digital, and emailed music submissions for the physical and digital libraries utilizing existing Music Library volunteer structure;
- Communicating with the Program Director to ensure programmers meet all broadcast content requirements;
- Communicating with representatives from record companies, labels, and promoters to acquire new music and expand partnerships;
- Attending a weekly staff meeting.
Qualifications:
- Consistent daytime in-office hours to ensure availability to volunteers;
- Strong communication and people skills;
- Excellent and timely written and verbal communication skills when navigating communications with volunteers, programmers, and members;
- Strong ability to work in collective team settings;
- Excellent understanding and working knowledge of Google Suite;
- Strong physical and digital organization skills and systems;
- Demonstrate an eclectic and unbiased knowledge of music;
- Experience in campus community radio and/or non-profit organizations is considered an asset;
- Experience working with a spectrum of neurodivergencies and abilities is considered an asset;
- Working knowledge of broadcast equipment and software is considered an asset;
- Drivers License and access to a vehicle is considered an asset;
- Knowledge of University of Lethbridge campus culture and organizational structures is considered an asset.
Hourly Requirements and Salary Information:
- 25 hrs to 32hrs / week
- $21,300.00 to $27,264.00 / year
- 4-weeks paid vacation time annually
