Jim Gunter, AKA “The Old Man on the Mountain”, the host of “The Bluegrass Corner”, has announced that March 25th, 2011 will not only be his 70th Birthday, but the day he retires from volunteer radio.
Jim has been with our organization in some capacity for almost 20 years, hosting and programming “The Bluegrass Corner”, one of CKXU’s most popular shows. He also helps with volunteer programmer training as well as supervision during our annual week-long Pledge Drive. Jim’s commitment to our organization is unparalleled and needless to say his weekly presence both on-air and off will be truly missed.
To all the fans of The Bluegrass Corner, Do not fret, CKXU will be programming Bluegrass music from Jim’s personal collection every Friday Morning from 9:00am – 11:00 starting April 1, 2011!!!!
This year’s Homelessness Marathon will broadcast live from the streets of Montreal, and several other locations across Canada, on Wednesday, February 23rd, starting at sunset and running all night long until sunrise on Thursday, February 24th.
The ninth annual Homelessness Marathon will once again serve up 14 hours of people-powered radio, broadcasting this year from multiple cities across Canada. With the goal of being a consciousness-raising event, the Marathon will provide an opportunity for homeless people and their allies to take to the airwaves, and allow a nationwide discussion on homelessness issues and possible solutions.
Reaching out to every listener, the audio for the Homelessness Marathon is available for free to all non-commercial broadcasters via the Internet. Last year, 40 stations carried the Homelessness Marathon. The participation of community radio stations from across Canada is vital for the Marathon to achieve its goals. Thus, we are currently inviting your station to participate in the upcoming Homelessness Marathon.
