CKXU AND THE GEOMATTIC ATTIC ARE PARTNERING TO BRING YOU “GREAT LAKE SWIMMERS” AND “COLD SPEKS” MAY 08 2012 at the SOUTHMINISTER UNITED CHURCH!
So, you should seriously think about seeing this show. This will be one of the most unique experiences of your summer – guaranteed. We’re talking folk-alternative sweet-hearts Great Lake Swimmers and soul-inspired singer-songwriter Cold Speks. Here are the links to the bands:
Great Lake Swimmers
and
Cold Specks
“Why would this experience be any different than seeing a show anywhere else in town?” Well, because this show is going to be featured in the Southminister United Church in downtown Lethbridge! If you’ve never heard of the above bands, go check out their music above, then imagine what they would sound like in such a beautiful sounding (and looking) venue.
Tickets are $30 in advance and can be bought at CKXU, Blueprint Entertainment, or the Geomattic Attic. OR, if you listen to CKXU, you may find that you can call in to win tickets so keep those ears peeled! A portion of ticket sales will go towards keeping the dream alive here at CKXU (upgrades, maintenance-type expenses, etc…) So go buy a ticket! HUGE VALUE!
Program Director – Benjamin T. Maine
Benjamin is relatively new to CKXU but he’s proven over and over again that he’s got what it takes to pick up where Alex left off and to take things to the next level! Benjamin just happened to recently breath new life into CKXU’s News Collective with his in-part involvement with the show “Coalbanks Dispatch.” at Sunday at 5:00pm. You should listen to it. It’s awesome.
and
Digital Music Temp – Branden Hamilton!
Branden has been involved with CKXU for quite a while. He’s got the right mind to pull CKXU’s policy on digital music submissions up to par and hopefully generate the ability to effectively catalogue and have digital music available for our DJ’s to play on air! He does a great rock show on Friday nights at 9:00pm called “Just Deserts” with his co-host James. You should listen to it. It’s awesome.
So let’s get a party going (let’s get a party going)
Now it’s time to party and we’ll party hard (party hard)
Let’s get a party going (let’s get a party going)
When it’s time to party we will always party hard
Party hard (party hard, party hard, party hard party hard, party hard, party hard party hard, party hard, party hard…)
- Andrew WK
Alright, so because we’ve been working our tails off to have a space that can accommodate MANY rad things radio-related we’re going to take FULL advantage of it. Isn’t that just grand? TODAY is the day we’ve been waiting for. For years. Gosh it feels nice. Anyway, I (Aaron) want to say a huge loving thanks to the hard working people who made this all possible. This most definitely includes the CKXU Radio Society as a whole because without the zazz to make this space a better place the human race would be forced to embrace mediocre radio tendencies! Phew! So we’re going to have a celebration today at the CKXU headquarters! Here’s the schedule!!
(Hosted By K Fresh and the Emos)
Stalwart Sons – 5:00pm
Extra Happy Ghost!!!- 5:30pm
(Hosted by The Honeymill)
Jessica Jalbert – 6:00pm
The Joe – 6:30
So as you can see we have a pretty rad lineup of live music… We’re pretty jazzed about it. You will be able to watch these bands perform if you choose to drop by the station tonight sometime between the hours of 5pm-7pm. That sounds nice doesn’t it? We’ve even taken down the show posters in the windows and moved the microwave slightly so you can have an unobstructed viewing experience!
Awesome. Oh yeah, there will be nice refreshments there for you to eat.
We’ve managed to get a our live stream broadcast issues ironed out and fixed! Click one of the links below to listen live with your application of choice or go here for more options. But be warned, you’re about to enter a world of wonder, joy, madness and of course – the sweet & sour sounds of Lethbridge’s True Alternative!

This year’s Homelessness Marathon will broadcast live from the streets of Montreal, and several other locations across Canada, on Wednesday, February 23rd, starting at sunset and running all night long until sunrise on Thursday, February 24th.
The ninth annual Homelessness Marathon will once again serve up 14 hours of people-powered radio, broadcasting this year from multiple cities across Canada. With the goal of being a consciousness-raising event, the Marathon will provide an opportunity for homeless people and their allies to take to the airwaves, and allow a nationwide discussion on homelessness issues and possible solutions.
Reaching out to every listener, the audio for the Homelessness Marathon is available for free to all non-commercial broadcasters via the Internet. Last year, 40 stations carried the Homelessness Marathon. The participation of community radio stations from across Canada is vital for the Marathon to achieve its goals.
