CKXU Live On Location Content Director (Contract)

“CKXU Live On Location Content Director”

The CKXU Live On Location Content Director is concerned with details directly relating to development, management, and archiving of all relevant content before and after attending various live on location CKXU broadcasts throughout the summer months of 2017. The CKXU Live On Location Content Director is to work closely with the CKXU Program Director and the CKXU Live On Location Audio Engineer to further develop relevant and engaging community focused on-air programming.

 

Specific tasks:

  • Identify, schedule, coordinate, and attend five (5) live on location broadcasts that would be considered “routine” summer community events (i.e. weekly community sporting events, farmer’s markets, community keynotes, art exhibits etc.)
  • Identify, schedule, coordinate, and attend four (4) live on location broadcasts that would be considered unique cultural experiences in the community around the City of Lethbridge
  • The aforementioned responsibilities include the following specific duties:
    • initiation of correspondence between the various weekly or standalone event organizers
    • coordinating and relaying information to CKXU’s Program Director and the CKXU Live on Location Audio Engineer to formulate logistical approaches to each event
    • working with CKXU’s Program Director and Volunteer Coordinator to identify and delegate appropriate internal CKXU DJs who would be well suited to producing content at each event, as needed
    • ensuring proper broadcast consent forms are signed and in place before broadcast takes place
    • archiving and coordinating the preparation of all digital audio content generated at on-location events for any further usesidentified by CKXU’s Program Director
    • Developing play logs for each event as necessary
  • Closely monitoring and documenting progress related to the goals and task requirements of the position
  • Producing follow up reports after each experience in the field

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and human resource coordination skills
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Must be able to work in a team setting
  • Willing to work flexible hours – including evenings and weekends as needed
  • must be outgoing, personable and comfortable interacting with the public and acting as an ambassador for CKXU
  • a good understanding of the CKXU Radio Society as an organization, and a general familiarity with our current programming needs
  • Experience with event coordination is considered an asset
  • good familiarity with the general Lethbridge area and local community events is considered and asset
  • current enrollment in a broadcasting/journalism, audio arts, or equivalent post-secondary program would be considered an asset
  • Must sign CKXU membership agreement

As this position is generously funded by a Canada Summer Jobs grant, the eligible applicants are required to:

  • be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • be registered as a fulltime student during the preceding academic year;
  • return to school on a fulltime basis during the next academic year;
  • be a student in a secondary, postsecondary, vocational or technical program;
  • be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*
  • be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations

Note: Foreign students are not eligible.

Remuneration

  • $15.00 / hour
  • 32 hours / week
  • Nine (9) week period of the contract

CKXU Live On Location Audio Engineer (Contract)

 

“CKXU Live On Location Audio Engineer”

The CKXU Live On Location Audio Engineer is concerned with tasks and details relating to the technical requirements of executing a live on location broadcast in the summer months of 2017.  The Live on Location Audio Engineer is to work closely with the CKXU Program Director and the CKXU Live On Location Content Director to further develop relevant and engaging community focused on-air programming.

 

Specific tasks:

  • Responsible for leading reconnaissance outings ahead of nine (9) summer live on location broadcasts at different events.
  • Liaising with event organizers of these live on location events to identify and assess the following:
    • AC power sourcing
    • General environmental factors that may affect broadcast
    • Crowd flow (if applicable)
    • Potential noise pollution of broadcast
    • Establishing placement that is both highly visible and free of ambient noise for CKXU’s temporary on-air booth at each event
    • Executing all live on location broadcasts
    • Ensuring proper signal flow, testing audio levels well ahead of broadcast
    • Closely monitoring each live on location broadcast to ensure best possible audio product
    • Troubleshooting as required
  • Working with CKXU’s Program Director, Volunteer Coordinator, and the CKXU Live On Location Content Director to identify and delegate appropriate internal CKXU volunteers well suited to monitoring the in studio (CKXU-FM headquarters) live on location requirements as needed.
  • Responsible for general upkeep, transportation and return of all live on location audio and computer equipment
  • Aiding in production efforts as necessary relating to all digital audio content generated at on-location events for any usesidentified by CKXU’s Program Director
  • Closely monitoring and documenting progress related to the goals, task requirements of the position
  • Producing follow up reports after each experience in the field

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Experience with media production software,
  • Firm understanding of audio signal flow,
    • Digital audio routing, codecs, driver compatibility
    • Physical audio systems routing
  • Minimum 2 yrs live audio mixing experience,
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license,
